RHAYADER Town Reserves edged ever closer to the Watson Financial Mid Wales (South) League title with a 4-0 home victory against Carno Reserves on Tuesday night.

With a string of good results behind them, Carno were aiming to shoot down the league leaders, but Rhayader were ahead after just two minutes with Mark Davies netting from a free-kick which went in via a post.

Paul Bishop added a second before half-time when he went through one on one and two further second half goals from Tom Jones and Gareth Hughes settled matters. Tom Jones scored his from a cut back from Dylan Jones and a splendid effort from the influential Hughes completed the night’s scoring.

In the match which pitted second against third, Knighton Town Reserves edged out Brecon FC 1-0 to leapfrog their rivals in the league table. In a game of few chances, marc Wozencraft won it for Knighton with the only goal two minutes from time.

Knighton had collected three points in their bid for a top two finish with a 3-1 home success over arch rivals, Presteigne Reserves in midweek. The visitors took the lead through Tom Crichton but Knighton hit back with goals from Jordan Griffiths, Sean Milward and Adam Farmer.

Brecon FC dropped further points as they were held 1-1 at Brecon Northcote whose recent form has taken them into the top half of the table.

The local derby was a full blooded affair and Brecon FC had Luke Roughley sent off for picking up a second yellow card before topscorer, Kyle O’Shea gave them the lead form the penalty spot following a foul on Louis Pritchard.

That was how in remained until the final minute when a hopeful ball into the box found Asim Magar unmarked and he chested it down and poked in the equaliser.

Talgarth Town continue to climb after a 2-0 verdict at Presteigne Reserves. Ben Sharman gave Chris Voyle’s side an interval lead and Jordan Harvey sealed the points ten minutes from time.

On Sunday Matty Tong grabbed a late winner as Hay St Marys Reserves defeated Carno Reserves 3-2 at Forest Road. Tom Bevan and Darren Horrigan gave The Saints a two goal lead bur Carno hit back through Jordan Jones and carwyn Williams only to see Tong strike with just a minute remaining.
