SPAR MID WALES LEAGUE DIVISION 1
Rhayader Town fittingly ended their Spar Mid Wales league Division One campaign with a 1-0 win at second placed Carno. Already assured of runners up earlier in the week, Carno fell to their first home defeat of the season with Tom Bethell grabbing the all important goal from the penalty spot for The Red Kites
Both teams made changes giving a chance to squad players and Rhayader took the opportunity to give some experience to 16 year olds, Cameron Mills and Ryan Rowlands who were both on the bench. It was a typical end of season affair with RhayaderÕs Ifan Burrell missing a string of gilt edged chances before earning the penalty which Bethell tucked away.
Knighton Town have really ended their season with a flourish and it is perhaps a case of what might have been. Knighton made it six wins from their last six league games with a 1-0 home success against Llanrhaeadr on Saturday. Connor Bird meant it was a quickfire double over Llanrhaeadr with a screamer on the volley settling the outcome.
Llandrindod Wells signed off for the summer with a 5-2 home verdict over Bow Styreet with Kieran McCarley netting twice. Darren Murphy, Kejan Foryszewski and Elliot Williams were also on target for the Spa men.
Radnor Valley completed their first season in Spar One with a 3-0 defeat at Llanrhaeadr. The host netted all three goals, through Marc Griffiths, Iwan Matthews and Kieran Evans, in a five minutes spell in the first half after Radnor had seen a penalty saved.
Llanidloes Town have enjoyed a fine second half to their season under Hugh Clarke and could well be among the frontrunners next season. The Daffs, who end their campaign at Llanrhaeadr on Saturday, beat Machynlleth 3-0 with goals from Harri Clarke, Joe Evans and Gareth Owen.
SPAR MID WALES LEAGUE DIVISION 1 (MIDWEEK)
Knighton Town had extended their winning run to five last Wednesday night with a 2-0 victory in the Radnorshire derby against Llandrindod Wells. Sam Williams volleyed the Robins ahead in the first half and Connor Bird rounded off a fine team move to secure the spoils after the break.
Carno had made certain of runners-up spot with goals from Drew Reynolds, Peter Rees and Jordan Jones earning a 3-0 success over Tywyn Bryncrug while Llanidloes Town drew 1-1 with Aberaeron Ð Joe Evans grabbing a second half equaliser for The Daffs after Gareth Severs gave Aberaeron an early lead..
Player-manager, Marc Griffiths led the way with a five goal haul as Llanraeadr swamped Machynlleth 7-0 at home with Iwan Matthews and Alex Hall also on the mark.
WATSON FINANCIAL MID WALES LEAGUE (SOUTH)
Hay St Marys ended their Watson Financial Mid Wales (South) League Championship winning season with a 3-2 victory at Knighton Town Reserves. Darren Horrigan, Kyle Harding and Rob McNamara put The Saints three up before Knighton battled back bravely with a brave from Elian Owen leading to a few nervy minutes for the Champuions.
Elsewhere on Saturday, Llandrindod wells Reserves pipped Penybont Reserves 1-0 with Ryan Sims bagging the all important goal against his former club.
Rhayader Town Reserves had warned up for the League Cup Final with a 1-1 draw against local rivals, St Harmon in their final league match. James Price gave The Swifts the lead in the first five minutes but Rhayader were back on terms by half-time with Jordan McFadden levelling with a delightful lob over Ôkeeper, Barry Evans.
Penybont Reserves had celebrated a 3-2 success at Knighton Town Reserves with Jake Bufton bagging two of the goals. Rory Brown was PenybontÕs other marksman with Stuart Jarvis and Jamie Blythe responding for Knighton.
There is just one league game remaining with Llandrindod Wells Reserves at home against Penybont Reserves tonight (Wednesday).
HAY CUPS
Hay St Marys lifted their own Hay Senior Cup with a 6-1 victory over Builth Wells. The Saints found themselves trailing but Stuart Davies levelled and a brace from Jack Biggs had them 3-1 up at half-time. Builth never looked like getting back in the game and Adi Lawford, Rob Sneddon and Matt James sealed a comfortable success.
Meranwhile Talgarth Town won the Ron Ellis Cup with goals from Jordan Harvey, who scored direct from a corner, and Scott Pavey earning a 2-0 win against Brecon Northcote.
