RHAYADER Town suffered another bleak away day in the Huws Gray Alliance with a 7-1 defeat at Caernarfon Town, who as a result go top of the table.

Nathan Craig gave the hosts a first minute lead and they were further ahead midway through the half when Gethin Jones headed a Craig cross into his own net.

Former Llanidloes Town striker, Jamie Breese added a third at the start of the second half and Red Kites player-manager, Dylan McPhee was credited with an own goal when Craig’s strike deflected off him past ‘keeper, Luke Evans.

Craig extended Caernarfon’s lead from the penalty spot but despite being under the cosh, credit must go to Rhayader for their work rate and Daffydd Carruthers pulled one back. But Caernarfon, a good bet for a return to the Welsh premier League, had the last word with Danny Brookwell and Darren Thomas netting further goals in the closing minutes.

Rhayader are at home against Gresford Athletic on Saturday.
