HAY St Marys are out of the Central Wales Challenge Cup after falling to a 1-0 defeat against Carno at Rhayader Town’s Weirglodd last Tuesday night.

Already missing Ryan Davies, Rob Sneddon and Adi Lawford, The Saints were further hampered when Steve Morgan had to pull out just before kick off.

Carno made the better start but Hay had the first real chance with Brendan Hackett hitting the outside of the post after being put through by Kevin Jones. Hay however dominated and should have been out of sight by half-time but for missed chances and also ‘keeper, Steve Jones who pulled off some fine saves.

Hay were brighter in the second half without creating much in the way of chances. It looked as if extra-time was on the cards until Greg Brown broke the deadlock on 88 minutes when he rounded Jones to roll the ball into an empty net.

Hay themselves have three finals to look forward to starting this Saturday when they take on Penrhyncoch in the Spar Mid wales league Cup Final at Llanidloes. Penrhyn beat Carno in the semi-final on Saturday with second half goals from Aaron Lemon and Jonathan Evans.

Hay should have nothing to fear when they tackle the League Champions – The Saints lost 1-0 at Penrhyncoch n the final day of the league season while also drew 4-4 at home in what was one of the games of the season.

Hay face Rhayader Town in the Radnorshire Cup Final on Friday May 27 with Presteigne now looking a likely venue while they are also in the Presteigne Otaway Cup Final.
