HAY St Marys beat the weather but could not overcome visiting Llanrhaeadr who went top of the Spar Mid Wales League first division with a thrilling 5-4 victory at Forest Road.

It looked as if it would be a difficult afternoon for The Saints who found themselves three down with Marc Griffiths (2) and Iwan Matthews netting for Llanrhaeadr.

Brendan Hackett pulled one back before half-time and with the wind at their backs after the break, Hay pulled level through a Steve Morgan brace.

At this stage there looked only one winner but Llanrhaeadr dug deep and edged in front again with Matthews grabbing his second.

Griffiths made it five for the visitors, competing his hat-trick following a quickly taken free-kick. Hay piled on the pressure in the closing stages and captain, Stuart Davies bundled home a corner but time ran out for The Saints who have now lost five in a row in the league.

The remainder of the Spar Mid Wales League first division and all the second division programme was wiped out by waterlogged pitches.
