Knighton Town and Llandrindod Wells will clash in this season’s Aspidistra Radnorshire Cup Final on Easter Monday.

Knighton beat a determined Builth Wells 5-4 on penalties after their semi-final ended 1-1 on Sunday.

Builth took an early lead when Alex Hicks headed in from a Harry Edwards corner at the near post. They appeared unlucky not to get a penalty when Shane Sutton hauled down Lee James in the box, but the one-goal advantage held to half-time.

Knighton equalised on the hour with a superb 25-yard free-kick from Kieran Dovey. Luke Boundford tested Builth keeper Kham Steventon, while Jamie Evans saw an effort tipped past the post by Liam Griffiths. Connor Bird also had a chance but shot weakly at Steventon. Neither side could find a winner, and the tie went to penalties.

The deadlock continued through the first ten kicks, with Hicks seeing Builth’s second saved by Griffiths, while Knighton’s Sutton was denied by Steventon. In sudden death, Jack Davies blasted home for Knighton before Lee James sliced his kick wide for Builth.

Llandrindod put their disappointing league form aside to earn a hard-fought 2-1 win at arch-rivals Rhayader Town, who played almost an hour with 10 men.

The local derby had added spice with Danny Hall lining up for Rhayader after a recent transfer from Llandrindod. Hall gave the Red Kites an early lead from the penalty spot following a push on Bradley Goodwin. Rhayader’s hopes were hit when Goodwin was sent off, and Jack Evans converted a penalty to level the scores after Cameron Mills was adjudged to have handled.

Llandrindod, with former Builth Wells midfielder Josh Joyce impressing on his full debut, scored the winner five minutes into the second half. Stuart Williams broke down the left and set up Ruben Edwards, who finished well at the near post.
