TALGARTH Town got their Watson Financial Mid Wales League (South) campaign up and running with a 3-1 success at local rivals, Hay St Marys Reserves last Thursday night.

The turning point of the game came in the second half, with the score at 1-1, when Hay’s Kevin Jones saw red for kicking out at Ben Sharman, who was the outstanding player on the field.

Sharman made Hay pay as he ran through to put his side ahead before brother, Harry sealed the points. Talgarth ‘keeper, Martyn Norwood had to be at his best in the opening exchanges to deny Hay and Harry Sharman then gave Talgarth the lead before Josh Wisniewski levelled from a through ball from Jones.

Hay bounced back from that defeat by battering St Harmon 13-0 at the weekend. Ricky Lynes led the way with a four goal haul which included a contender for goal of the season. Kevin Jones bagged a hat-trick and there were doubles for Matty Tong, Josh Wisniewski and Kyle Harding.

Builth Wells Reserves made it back to back wins by beating Llandrindod Wells Reserves 4-1 away but manager, Kevin Claridge will not get carried away.

It is nevertheless an encouraging start for the young Builth side who took an interval lead with Luke Evans netting against his former club.

Connor Jones converted a cross to make it two but Ryan Sims raised Llandrindod hopes pulling one back. Builth showed their fighting spirit and Daniel Walker beat two men before slotting home leaving Connor Jones to complete the tally when coolly rounded the ‘keeper for is second of the night.

Defending Champions, Rhayader Town Reserves were held to a goalless draw by Presteigne Reserves. In a scrappy affair, Spencer Morgan had headed Presteigne in front but Michael Fowlie headed an equaliser on the hour. Rhayader might have snatched it with Tom Wozencraft seeing his late header hit the bar.

Brecon Northcote fell to a 5-1 defeat at Llanidloes Town Reserves on Friday night with Jamie Davies grabbing the only first half goal for the home side.

The Daffs however stepped up their game after the break with Rhys Evans completing a hat-trick while Matthew Savage was also on target with Joel Evans gaining Northcote’s reply.
