TALYBONT moved 42 points clear at the top of the league as they gained revenge for their only defeat of the season with a five wicket win over second placed Wormelow 3rds at Kingstone School.

Captain Dan Bowen called correctly at the toss and despite tight opening spells by Huw Griffiths (10 overs 6 maidens 0 for 13) and Lewis Deacon (6 overs 1 maiden 0 for 15) Bont failed to get a wicket as Wormelow reached 20 overs with just 45 runs on the board.

Bont took until the 23rd over before they finally made the break through with Carl Lewis (10 overs 0 maidens 2 for 59) getting Olly King caught by Craig Samuel for 16 and clean bowling Ashley Smith for 15. Brian Gunn was next to go as the slow start from Wormelow led to panic and he was run out by Mick Mcalister for 44.

Martin Hurst (10 overs 2 maidens 1 for 29) then joined the attack and he kept the pressure on picking up the wicket of the experienced Ian Herbert for nine caught by Bowen. More fine fielding by Bont then saw two further run outs with samuel and Richard James producing calm pieces of fielding.

Wickets were now falling at regular intervals as Wormelows run rate was putting the lower order under pressure as Guy Williams (4 overs 1 maiden 3 for 17) picked up three quick wickets clean bowling Williams for 1 and Merrick for 14 and then Craig Samuel picking up another catch to top off a fine individual fielding performance.

A fine performance from Bont who’s fielding was of the highest order as they restricted wormelow to 141 for 9 off their 40 overs. In reply Bowen and Mick Mcalister got Bont off to a steady start adding 22 before Bowen was bowled for 16 quickly followed by Mcalister LBW for nine both to the bowling of Chris Haston (10 overs 3 maidens 3 for 16) who then also picked up the wicket of hurst for 12 to leave Bont at 46 for 3 off 20 overs and the game in the balance.

Richard James who for the second week running was again in fine form as himself and Guy Williams adding boundaries until williams was caught for 12. James and Huw Griffiths then appeared to be seeing Bont to victory with a stand of 46 before Griffiths went caught and bowled for 25.

With 40 runs needed off eight overs Bont then cruised to victory in the 38th over with James ending unbeaten on 43 and Lewis Mallon with a quickfire 20 not out as the young pair showed great qualities to see Bont over the winning line picking up 23 points and Wormelow with four points.

A great all round team performance by Talybont who recorded their 10 consecutive win. This week sees the leaders travel to face Strollers 2nds.
