Brecon Corries 1 Pencoed Athletic 0
A Jordan Baker strike secured all three points for Brecon Corries against Pencoed Athletic to move them up to third in the HighAdmit Projects South Wales Alliance League Premier Division.
Ynyshir Albions topped the table at the end of the weekend with 18 points from seven games while the Corries have taken 14 points, from as many games, courtesy of four wins and two draws.
Their only loss came, at home, to Caerphilly Athletic who are second in the table on 17 points though both Corries and Ynyshir have a game in hand on the Gwent side.
The defender’s strike on 53 minutes broke the deadlock on Saturday. The Corries defence held tight for the remainder of the game for only their second clean sheet of the season.
That will have provided the Rich Field side with a welcome boost ahead of their JD Welsh Cup second qualifying round tie against MMP Mid Wales League Division on Two side Abermule.
The Corries will have home field advantage for a rare competitive fixture against fellow Powys opponents and kick-off at the Rich Field is 2.30pm.
The visitors haven’t played since suffering a 0-4 home defeat to Dyffryn Banw in the league a fortnight ago but their reserves won 4-2 against Kerry Reserves on Saturday.
The Mule have recorded two of their three league wins away from home this season and knocked out Rhayader Town 3-2, in August’s first qualifying round.
The Corries will return to league action on Saturday, October 6 when they host Grange Albion at the Rich Field (2.30pm).
Also in Welsh Cup second round qualifying action this this Saturday are Mid Wales League First Division leaders Radnor Valley who host mid table Carno FC and Builth Wells, who won promotion to the first division last season, travel north to Berriew to division rivals Berriew.
