A TEENAGER whose parents and grandparents are from Llandrindod Wells has been selected to play hockey for Wales U18s.
Gaby Goodman who lives in Sandbach, Cheshire, played for the Under 16 national team last year, she qualifies as a member of the Welsh Under 18’s hockey team because of her Llandrindod Wells heritage.
Her grandparents Jim and Doreen Rogers are from there, and her mother Nicola was also born in the Mid Wales town. Gabby celebrated her 17th birthday early by scoring the opening goal in the match which contributed to a Wales series win against Switzerland over the Easter weekend.
Gabby said: "My Mum, Nicola, brought me up to support Wales and encouraged me to try every sport going including swimming, athletics, rugby, cricket and football with the view that one day I would represent a Welsh team.
"I really enjoy playing hockey and having progressed from the Under 16 team last season, my next target is to work towards the senior squad. The set-up in the Welsh camp is second to none and even at my age, we have the support of strength and conditioning coaches, psychologists and video analysts."
Gaby added: "I would really encourage youngsters from Mid Wales to get involved with the 360 Hockey Training programmes.
