BRECON’S table tennis star Rob Davies will bring home the spoils after winning gold in the men’s singles class one final in Rio.

Rob, beat Korea’s Young Dae Joo 3-1 on Tuesday afternoon winning the first set 14-12, losing the second 11-4, before winning both the third 11-9 and fourth 11-5.

Rob, who was injured playing rugby for Brecon RFC, won his four previous games with a 3-2 win over Switzerland’s Silvio Keller, another 3-2 win over Italy’s Andrea Borgato before going on to beat France’s Jean-Francois Ducay 3-0 in the quarter-final to bag a place in the semis.

He then convincingly beat Hungary’s Endre Major in the semi-final to book his place in the final.

Rob, who was guaranteed a medal, is the current World number one table tennis player and already has medals from the world championships as well as finishing fifth in the Paralympics in 2012.
