WEDNESDAY August 26 saw the mid week competition take place at Cradoc.

Another great score saw Guptaman win by a comfortable margin against the 31 other golfers. The heavy showers and the breeze didn’t seem to put off the top three who all played below their handicaps with two of them shooting a gross 75.

Results:- First: Guptaman Gurung (h’cap 11) Nett 64; Second: Nick Powell (h’cap 15) Nett 67; Third: Derek Osborne (h’cap 6) Nett 69. There were 7 x 2’s each getting three Callaway Chrome Soft balls.

ON Sunday, August 30, the Military Cup Medal competition took place with 62 entries.

The rain and persistent drizzle meant it was going to be a tough day for a medal, the course was playing its full length because of rain earlier in the week, but the softening conditions meant it was easier to control the approach shots onto the greens.

There was some good golf out there with the top five are all under par, new member Ben Kelleher is starting to gain more local knowledge with a fine four over par 75 and a return to the winners rostrum for Ken after a steady round, he tops the pile with an impressive Nett 67.

Results:- First: Ken Matthews (h’cap 15) Nett 67; Second: Ben Kelleher (h’cap 7) Nett 68; Third: Jon Rix (h’cap 18) Nett 69; Fourth: John Jones (h’cap 11) Nett 70; Fifth: Mark Cochrane (h’cap 13) Nett 70. There were 7 x 2’s each getting seven Nike RZN balls.

ANOTHER mid week competition was held on Wednesday, September 2 with 25 players.

There was a few showers for the players in the day but a perfect evening for golf with very little wind and the course playing very well. The top four scores were all tied so it came down to who had the best count back on the back nine and Simon was the cream of the crop with his 38 points.

Results:- First: Simon Williams (h’cap 10) 38 points; Second: Allan Smith (h’cap 13) 38 points; Third: John Drain (h’cap 6) 38 points; Fourth: Jon Watson (h’cap 10) 38 points.

SUNDAY September 6 saw the Mens four ball better ball open take place.

128 golfers attended and they couldn’t have picked a better day for golf. The conditions were superb for golf with not a cloud in the sky and hardly any wind to talk about and the feedback from the golfers was that the course was in fantastic shape with all credit to the green staff for their efforts this year.

Some very good scoring of 3/4 handicap with the winning pair seven under the card closely followed by the rest of the field. Well played to the winners and the club hope that everyone enjoyed their day at Cradoc and hope to everyone again next year for the Opens.
