THE Inaugural Cup took place on Sunday May 16 at Cradoc Golf Club.

The cup, which was one of the original competitions to be played after the opening of Cradoc Golf Club, has 84 competitors and the cup was was donated by Ben and Florence Harries and is open to both the mens and ladies sections of the club.

It was certainly a day for good scores and the course was looking fantastic with the new growth and the cutting by the green staff really bringing definition to the tees, fairways and greens.

The day started off rather cool but there was very little wind to contend with, as the temperature rose so did the strength of the wind which showed in the results with five of the top six players coming in around lunchtime, the top three were decided on count back after they all tied on five under par. It is unusual to see three players tie with such a good score.

Results

First: Dane Clancy (h’cap 9) - 41 points; Second: Paul Webb (h’cap 19) - 41 points; Third: Lew Phillips (h’cap 25) - 41 points; Fourth: Matthew Gardner (h’cap 11) - 39 points; Fifth: John Morris (h’cap 14) - 39 points; Sixth: Andrew Kirk (h’cap 13) - 38 points. There were eight Titleist NXT balls for each of the 2’s.

The ladies of the club took part in the Stableford Waltz competition on May 12 with 24 members taking part.

The Stableford Waltz is a team game where one score, two scores and then all three players scores count for that hole and if the format is not hard enough, the tough holes seem to fall where all players have to score, this didn’t seem to deter the winners though they scored an impressive 70 points between them.

Jill, Steph and Mags were the last players out on what was a glorious day for golf and they made the most of it, the course looked stunning with a lot of the trees finally blossoming after this warm spell and it played as good as it looked.

Results: First: 70 points - Jill Evans, Steph Jenkins and Mags Jones; Second: - 66 points (on the back 9) - Glenys Williams, Jacqui Wilding and Jan Boreham; Third: 66 points-

Sue Fair, Hazel Price and Jan Williams.

The good from continues for Allan Smith, after being part of the winning team in the Texas Scramble Open after he followed it up with a good medal round which almost reduced his handicap to single figures.

Although the weather looked threatening all day it could only muster drizzle for the golfers but after the overnight rain the course would have played its full length off the tee but the ball would have stopped instantly when it hit the green meaning you could attack the flag positions.

Results

First: Allan Smith (h’cap 10) Nett 70; Second: Alex Moysen (h’cap 16) Nett 71; Third: Gary Jenkins (h’cap 13) Nett 73. There were 2 x 2’s each getting 12 Titleist DT Solo’s.
