TEENAGER Gaby Goodman, who through her Llandrindod heritage qualifies to represent Hockey Wales, was a member of that squad which in July won gold, and promotion to Division two in the Under 18 European Hockey Championships.
Gaby, granddaughter of Jim and Doreen Rogers of Llandrindod Wells, travelled to Gibraltar to play for Wales in a nail biting tournament.
Gaby said: " I was pleased to score a goal in our first match against Gibraltar. After the preliminary rounds we faced Switzerland in the final, they defended well although we managed to come away with a 2-0 win."
Gaby puts the squad’s success down to a very demanding strength and conditioning programme.
Following the championships she spent a few days recovering in Mid-Wales, before commencing training for her first sprint triathlon later in September.
She went on to say: "I am raising funds for the charity Live Life Give Life which promotes organ donation. It is a charity which is close to my heart as a seven-year-old second cousin recently received a liver transplant."
The 17-year-old was a member of the Wales U18 16 strong squad which headed to Loughborough University this week to play in the annual UK School Games.
The squads will play from Thursday September 1st until Sunday September 4th against the best school age hockey talent from England, Scotland and Ulster.
After this week’s UK School Games the girls will be gearing up for the U18 Futures Cup in October, where they will be the first Welsh team in the competition.
