FORMER Brecon RFC player Osian Davies played a starring role in helping Merthyr lift the WRU National Cup.
Openside flanker Davies, of Sennybridge, was named man of the match by broadcasters S4C during the Ironmen’s demolition of Newport at the Principality Stadium final on Sunday.
Davies helped the Principality Premiership side to a 41 points to 7 victory over the Black and Ambers in one sided final that rounded off a day of competition at the national stadium.
Ahead of the showpiece match, once the grandest stage in Welsh domestic rugby before professional regions replaced clubs at the top of the domestic structure, Brynmawr who compete with Brecon in the third division defeated Nant Conwy, 50-29, to lift the national plate.
Porthcawl edged past Pembroke 33-31 in the national bowl final with all games played at the 74,500 capacity stadium.
