CRICKHOWELL welcomed Crumlin RFC to a cold and rainy Parc Broyd on Saturday last and despite the weather, a good crowd of both home and away supporters turned out.

The visitors were first on the scoreboard following a good run upfield.

Crickhowell conceded a penalty near their line and one of the Crumlin flankers took the opportunity to cross the line for a try which was unconverted.

Crickhowell replied not long afterwards when a penalty kick took them to their opponents’ 22 and strong forward pressure and drive resulted in hooker Aaron Horne grounding the ball with scrum-half Lewis Evans adding the conversion.

Shortly before half-time Crickhowell stretched their lead when, following a line-out, they won the ball and it was fed backwards and forwards across the line before Connor Stephens crashed over in the corner. That try was unconverted leaving the score at the break at 12-5.

Crumlin rallied in the second half and good work by their forwards exerting sustained pressure on the home team’s line resulted in a brace of converted tries which left the Parc Broyd outfit trailing by seven points.

The Crumlin No.8 was yellow carded near the close of the game and it was the turn of Crickhowell to apply pressure and when the ball was fed out to Bleddyn Carrington on the wing his strong running saw him score near the corner. With Lewis Evans securing the difficult conversion the sides drew level and there was no time left for either side to gain a winning score.

In previously unreported games in this new year, Crickhowell snatched defeat from the jaws of victory when they were overhauled by Malpas RFC to lose by 24 points to 25 and the following week travelled down to play West mon RFC where they lost 25-16.

This Saturday (January 27) sees Crickhowell play away to Trefil RFC with the kick-off at 2.30pm.
