In their second game in the newly-formed WRU National League 5 East, Crickhowell travelled to take on old rivals Hollybush RFC, writes Mal Powell.
The visitors were first on the scoreboard when, following a scrum and some deft passing, full-back Harry Summers dodged through with Lewis Evans kicking the conversion.
Following an infringement, Hollybush went a man down to a yellow card.
Crickhowell failed to take advantage of their numerical supremacy and when the home team returned to full strength, they took play close to the try line and it was down to Tom Keane to rescue the situation with a fine clearance kick.
It was then Crick’s turn to fall foul of the laws and had two players sin-binned in quick succession.
Hollybush slotted over a penalty from the first offence and followed up with a converted try when they smuggled the ball through Crick’s stretched defence.
Amends were made when, towards the end of the half, captain Lewis Logan broke through and passed the ball to the ever hard-working Tom Young who raced in.
The home team took the lead again in the second half with a well-kicked penalty and, shortly afterwards, only a try-saving tackle from Oliver Bidwell prevented them stretching their lead further.
With time running out and stout Hollybush tackling, Crick again snatched the lead from a Lewis Evans penalty.
On the stroke of full-time, Evans added penalty to extend their lead, leaving the final score at Hollybush 13 - Crickhowell 18.
With no league or cup matches scheduled for the next three weeks, Crick return to action on October 22 with a tough visit to current league leaders Bettws RFC.
