GWERNYFED welcomed league leaders Porth to Trefecca Road last Saturday but it was the Rhondda Valleys contingent who kept their title hopes alive.
Unbeaten Porth showed up with a very good team scoring four tries but Gwernyfed held their own in a quick game with youngster Rhys Price in the back row catching the eye.
The Athletic ground out an 18-8 victory at home against Abergavenny seconds with another young back rower, Tom Powell, in powerful form scoring a try.
Gwernyfed left it late with Mike Jones and Baz Price taking the spoils with a try apiece.
The Green and Blacks have a two week rest now before hoping to get back to winning against against bottom of the table Treherbert.
