St Albans 27 Llandrindod Wells 12

THIS was a match that Llandrindod should have won had they been able to field a side of the strength that is apparent for home fixtures.

Regardless of this, in the first half it was the elements and pitch slope that influenced matters. Playing in to the teeth of a very strong wind, and up a slight slope, Llandrindod conceded a penalty and a try before coming in to their own.

A driving maul took play up to the St Albans line, which held despite the home side losing their cool. A subsequent five metre scrum for Llandrindod gave skipper Geraint Evans the chance to break from the pack, a quick pass to Jonathan Duggan to touch down for a try converted into the wind by Jac Holden.

St Albans’ slender lead was extended shortly after with a converted pushover try, but this half ended with Llandrindod closing the gap after Danny Davies forced his way through the St Albans defensive wall to score an unconverted try. 15-12 to St Albans.

Despite having the twin advantages of the slope and the wind after the break, Llandrindod were unable to capitalise and in this period conceded two tries, one converted, to give the home side a 27-12 win.

This week, Llandrindod have no game, their next match being a pre-Christmas trip down the A470 on December 19 to Caerau Ely in the League.
