Llandrindod Wells 25 Cowbridge 22.
DESPITE the atrocious weather, this was a cracker of a game between two evenly matched sides.
Having lost to Cowbridge on their visit earlier in the year Llandrindod were keen to make amends though initial forays by the visitors in to the Llandrindod half caused some concern especially when the visitors touched down twice in a short space of time.
By now though Llandrindod’s power up front was starting to make it’s mark and with some success as Ashley Hammond used his strength to drive over for the first of the home side’s five tries, and the first of his own two.
Continuing where they left off after the restart, a Llandrindod scrum close to the Cowbridge line gave skipper, Geraint Evans, an ideal opportunity to pick up from the base of the scrum and touch down, for the first of his own brace of tries. Again unconverted, the blustery and unpredictable wind making the conditions very difficult for the kickers.
The second half saw Llandrindod build on their previous success, especially up front, with Hammond celebrating his birthday in style with a try much like his first, prop Richard Watkins powering over and Geraint Evans wrapping up the game in style with a try two minutes from time, none converted.
In between all this happening, Cowbridge kept in touch on the scoreboard but were unable to overtake the home side by the final whistle.
This week, Llandrindod travel to old friends and opponents, Glyncoch, in the League.
