Jack Evans held his nerve to net a stoppage time penalty for Llandrindod Wells who drew 3-3 with Radnor Valley in a six goal thriller at The Bypass in the Ardal League North East. Llandrindod, who have recently completed the transfer of midfielder, Josh Joyce from Builth Wells, must have thought they were on course for their first win in the league since October when they scored twice in three minutes midway through the first half.
Ruben Edwards made the break through when he latched on to a Jack Evans through ball and rounded Radnor manager, Adam Jones who was deputising for the unavailable Otto Jones in goal and was named The Goats’ man of the match at full time. Will Cleaton doubled the lead slotting home from a Stuart Williams cross but Radnor reduced the arrears with Joey Price netting from the penalty spot when Ieuan Price was bundled over in the box.
Llandrindod deserved their two-one interval lead but Radnor upped the tempo in the second half and Joey Price equalised from Jack Clarke’s cutback before Lewis Morris put The Goats ahead from a Matthew Croose cross. Llandrindod kept plugging away and were themselves awarded a controversial penalty in stoppage time when Robbie Nicholls went down in the box. Radnor’s Morris was shown a second yellow card by referee, Aled Jones, which meant he would see red, before Evans converted the spot-kick to earn the Spa side a point. The Goats nearly achieving an impressive comeback win, had to settle for a point. Radnor Valley will travel to Corwen next Saturday (21 February), and Llandrindod Wells will have a home fixture, hosting Llanuwchllyn.
Elsewhere in the Ardal League North East, Builth Wells extended their unbeaten run to four matches, playing well to pick up another valuable point in a goalless draw at Dolgellau. The Bulls, who travelled with a very much patched up side, welcomed back Danny Ives and saw ex-Westfields midfielder, Cameron Godsall make his debut while experienced defender, Gavin Samuel was also in the starting line-up after answering a late call-up. On a pitch which was barely playable there were precious few chances at either end. Ciaran Price had probably Builth’s best opportunity after beating a couple of defenders while Ives was also denied by Dolgellau ‘keeper, Darren Andrews. Builth had to withstand a lot of second half pressure as the pitch cut up and ‘keeper, Kham Steventon made one excellent one on one save to deny Dolgellau topscorer, Gerwyn Williams as they kept another clean sheet.
Draws were the order of the day on Valentine’s Saturday with Kerry and Penycae also sharing the points when their game finished at 2-2. But The Lambs will be a little disappointed as they had led through Jamie Huxley and Ben Hendleman before Penycae hit back with goals from Zac Davies and Harry Killick, the equaliser coming three minutes from time.
Knighton Town saw their Ardal Northern League Cup tie at Rhos Aelwyd postponed but Llanuwchllyn are through. The Ardal North East League leaders beat Llanfair United 2-0 with a goal in each half from Dale Davies setting up a quarter final meeting with Bow Street. Knighton Town will travel to Llanrhaeadr next Saturday for a league fixture, kicking off at 2pm.
