SINCE its formation earlier in the year Red Kites regional girls rugby has gone from strength to strength.
Around 70 girls from Abergavenny, Crickhowell, Brecon, Builth, Talgarth and the English borders have come together in Talgarth for training sessions with qualified volunteer coaches every Friday evening.
Utilising Gwernyfed rugby club for its base, the Red Kites under 9s, 11s, 13s and 15s train throughout the summer with the aim of developing basic skills and team work in a fun environment.
Since setting up in May all age groups have progressed and taken part in regional weekend matches and national events organised by the Welsh Rugby Union will take place during August.
The Red Kites are hoping to continue the U15s side throughout the traditional rugby season and Red Kites rugby coordinator Ceri Morgan said: "It is pleasing to see girls of all ages and abilities coming together from across the region and we are grateful for the support of parents and their help in taking on roles such as team management and first aid."
On Sunday July 24 the Red Kites are hosting The Blues regional rugby festival for girls at Gwernyfed rugby club commencing at 10am.
Teams from right across the Blues region will come together with teams from The Dragons region to play in the second festival at Trefecca Road this season.
Ceri added: "Everyone is welcome to come along on the 24th to support the girls or to find out more about regional girls rugby."
