CHRIST College 1st XV rugby players have been kitted out with new shirts that emphasise the school’s historic connection with King Henry VIII.

The shirts, sponsored by Ty Mawr Lime Ltd of Brecon, use the ‘H’ from Henry’s name and the school’s distinctive green and gold colours to create a branding which will be worn by the rugby team.

The school’s origins date back to the 13th century when a Dominican friary was established in Brecon. In 1541 Henry VIII set up a school there, which is now the site of the modern Christ College.

The ‘H’ representing Henry VIII was originally introduced to Christ College in a window in the school’s dining hall in 1864. It has been worn on the shirt since 1970.

Ty Mawr Lime managing director Joyce Jervis, who has two sons at the school, said: “We are really pleased to have had the opportunity to support the new design rugby kit for Christ College 1st XV.

“With two keen rugby playing boys at the school and another soon to follow – rugby is and will continue to be a big part of all of our lives, clocking up many happy hours on the sidelines with other parents. We wish the 1st XV all the best for the rest of their exciting season.”
