EASTER Saturday’s eagerly anticipated local derby clash between the Quins and visitors Llandovery was called half an hour before kick off with the Park pitch partially under water writes Huw S Thomas..

The postponement deprived the Drovers of the opportunity to go top of the table but with Ebbw Vale, Newport and Aberavon winning, they slipped back to fifth spot with just four games remaining.

They remain on 60 points but only five points behind leaders Ebbw Vale who have played one more game.

They had pencilled in their strongest starting XV of the campaign only to have hopes dashed by the torrential rain.

One of their chief rivals, Newport are the visitors to Church Bank this Saturday, both sides knowing that only a win will be enough to give them strong hope of a top three play-off spot.

It will be Llandovery’s last home game and a big crowd is expected for this vital game.

Llandovery’s other three games will be away to Bedwas, Cardiff and Carmarthen Quins and coach Euros Evans has admitted that nothing but wins will be enough.

"We have to take it calmly step by step and just concentrate on beating the Black and Ambers first and then take it from there," said Evans, "There are still six clubs with a fair chance of a play off so there will be plenty of excitement for supporters between now and the end of the regular season."

As for the Quins, they lost a chance of important match practice before their impending Swalec semi-final clash with Cross Keys but before then, they have a home game in the Premiership against leaders Ebbw Vale this Saturday.

If they could beat the Steelmen, they could do their fellow Scarlets feeder club, Llandovery , a very big favour in the play-off race.

Come what may, both the Drovers and the Quins have a lot left to play for at the end of the season.
