LAST Saturday saw the first sponsored cycle ride from Ysgol Gymraeg Dyffryn y Glowyr. 28 brave children accompanied by their parents set out from ASDA in Ystalyfera in torrential rain aiming to complete four or eight miles on the Tawe Valley cycle path.

Having successfully reached the food station beside the Miners’ Memorial the riders headed back out onto the track making for Pontardawe.

Unknown to everyone the heavy rain and wind overnight had other plans and a massive tree had fallen over the track making further progress impossible. Not to be outdone the children decided that they would do laps of the first half of the course with two and three laps being done by different riders.

A special mention has to go the youngest rider who completed the four miles on a balance bike - a tremendous effort.

The children have raised over £500 pounds which will be used by the school for IT equipment.
