Brecon based esports team, S.E.A. Dragons are continuing to make waves in the esports world and have been rubbing shoulders with the likes of Manchester City and Usain Bolt!
The dragons were co-founded by former Brecon High School student Patryk Bialowas, and focus their gaming strategy around detailed analytics, in a money ball concept, making them stand out from the rest.
The team has recently experienced success, finishing in the top 64 in Europe twice in the Rocket League Championship Series EU Open qualifiers; a tournament that sees around 2,000 professional and semi-professional teams enter each time.
Only a small handful of British organisations progressed further on each occasion, including the likes of Manchester City Esports and Wylde, a team backed and owned by Olympic sprinter Usain Bolt.
Chuffed with the results, Patryk Bialowas told The Brecon & Radnor Express: “From those runs, we earned just over $1,000 in prize money. While not groundbreaking financially, as far as records go back (to 2017), it appears we may be the only Welsh esports club to have ever won prize money from the event.”
At the same time, the dragons are currently closing out the Spring season of the Welsh Esports League, where they have reached five out of six finals so far and are sitting on an 80%+ win rate, which is shaping up to be one of the most dominant campaigns the league has seen.
The team are also preparing to compete at Insomnia later this year, the UK’s biggest gaming festival, where they will be playing on the main stage in front of a live crowd of thousands.
The Dragons have experienced rapid success but Patryk believes this is just the start. He said: “It’s been quite a bit of progression from our debut season two seasons ago where we were around a 40% win rate. We've also just started offering media and coaching internships with our academy team to local sixth form and university students from the area. So there's still a lot of work to do but it's really a project that's starting to take off now.”
