Natalie Powell has won a silver medal at the -78kg judo at the Commonwealth Games.

At the Coventry Arena yesterday, the Welsh judoka narrowly lost out England’s Emma Reid in the highly anticipated final. In a close contest, Reid clinched the gold medal with a waza-ari score with Powell picking up silver.

Defending champion Powell had won her opening round contest against Franceska Agathe of Mauritius with ippon, before winning her semi-final contest with two waza-aris against Canada’s Coralie Godbout

Scotland’s Rachel Tytler beat Canada’s Coralie Godbout to win bronze.

Wales have currently won 17 medals at this year’s Games - four gold, four silver and nine bronze.
