BRECONSHIRE Young Farmers’ Clubs have enjoyed sporting success on the third day of the Royal Welsh Show.
Brecknock YFC recaptured their men’s rugby 7s title after overturning last year’s defeat to Radnor in emphatic fashion.
The team, with strong links to Brecon RFC, won the final in the cattle ring 26-0 to avenge last year’s final defeat. Brecknock YFC had won the 2017 title.
There was also success for both the men’s and women’s teams from Trecastle YFC in the tug of war. Representing Breconshire the club defeated host county Pembrokeshire in the men’s final while the women faced a giant tussle with neighbours Llandovery, representing Carmarthenshire, to win their final.
Trecastle YFC has been enjoying success in recent years in the tug of war.
Club leader Shelly Davies, who was shouting support for both teams, said: "My son Steffan is in the men’s team and my husband Lyn is the coach.
"The teams love it and they train all hours and compete in the Welsh Tug of War Association competitions throughout the season. It is a big part of our club and we have a junior team, for ages 12 to 18, pulling here tonight.
"We’ve been successful for a good many years, I’m sure it will come a time when we don’t do as well but the luck is with us for now."
