A round of the Federation of International Motorcyclists (FIM) World Enduro Championships will head to Rhayader this summer.

The Enduro GP of Wales will take place from Friday, August 2 to Sunday, August 4.

The event will be based at the Rhayader Motor Cycle & Light Car Club’s Cwmythig Hill course, two miles out of Rhayader on the B4518 St Harmon road.

It will be the second time that the Rhayader club has hosted a round of this prestigious event.

The last time the event came to Rhayader was 32 years ago in 1992. The year it will return to Mid Wales for the first time since 2008, when the Hafren club ran a round.

This time in the hands of the Rhayader club, the adrenaline-fuelled action starts on August 2. The event will use the local forestry to link special tests at Cwmythig Hill and Saintswell with a course that will challenge the very best enduro riders in the world.  At Cwmythig Hill there will be live music, bars, food vendors, traders plus Friday’s thrilling super test and a weekend of unmissable action.

Top of the entry list for this year’s event and looking forward to competing on home soil will be current overall world champion Steve Holcombe. He will be joined at the event by class world champion Brad Feeman four times women’s world champion Jane Daniels, fresh from her Dakar Rally success. Of course, they will all face stiff opposition from riders from all across Europe, New Zealand and Australia as well as a host of British riders including Rhayader’s own European enduro champion, Alex Walton.

This is a massive undertaking for the club and preparations have already been ongoing for several months.

To finance this ambitious project the club will be making a small charge to spectators to watch the action at the special tests with tickets available from the endurogp.wales website.

Discounted early bird tickets, for the whole weekend are available from the website from now until the end of March.

What to expect at this year’s event:

• Experience the intense Friday night Super Test, followed by two high-energy days of time card enduro racing through Welsh forestry, mountains and moorland.

• Witness the first UK appearance of EnduroGP in seven years.

• Rub shoulders with world-class riders, including autograph signing sessions and exclusive media access.

• Immerse yourself in a lively atmosphere with live music, food and drink during the evenings.

• Browse and shop at a range of trade strands, or kick back and enjoy live demos throughout the weekend.
