A 17-year-old boy from Pontardawe has been arrested in connection with threats made against Ysgol Maesydderwen in Ystradgynlais.
He is currently in police custody, accused of sending digital communications conveying threats of death or serious harm, with the intent to cause fear.
Powys Superintendent Gareth Grant, said: “I'd firstly like to thank the parents, teachers, staff and the wider community, for the support and patience you have shown whilst we have carried out our enquiries in relation to this incident.
“I understand this will have had a profound impact. Our Neighbourhood officers will maintain a local presence for reassurance, and we will continue to work with our local secondary schools, and partners, to ensure our local community are supported.”
The threats were first reported to police on Monday morning. Officers were called to the school at around 10:45am after a threat was made over the phone. The school immediately implemented its full lockdown procedures while enquiries were carried out.
All pupils and staff were later released safely, with buses brought in early and parents asked to collect children who were not travelling by bus.
Following a second threat, this time received via email later that evening, the school remained closed on Tuesday as police continued their investigation. The threat prompted heightened security and an increased police presence around the school.
Ysgol Maesydderwen reopened on Wednesday.
