The body found in Brecon during the search for a missing pensioner has been confirmed to be that of 96-year-old Rita.

Dyfed-Powys Police confirmed that body found on Saturday, March 5, has now been officially identified.

The elderly woman, who lived in the centre of Brecon, had gone missing a week earlier - she had been last seen at 10.20am on Saturday, February 26.

There was a multi-agency search to find Rita involving Dyfed-Powys Police, Mid and West Wales Fire and Rescue Service, Brecon Mountain Rescue Team, the National Police Air Service and the Search and Rescue Dog Association.

The community in and around the town were also very active in trying to find Rita, with residents co-ordinating searches online so they could cover as much of the town as possible.

Residents also started a Facebook page which amassed around 1000 followers helping in the search.

No more details have been released by the force at this time in line with the family’s wishes - they are being supported by specilaist officers from Dyfed-Powys Police.
