A remarkable story spanning nearly a century is coming to Brecon with the performance of ‘Snow Along the Line’ at The Muse on Saturday, March 14.
The one-man show explores the life of Barbara Jones (née Naisbitt), a woman born in 1928, whose journey from Durham to South Wales in 1955 reflects decades of change in both the country and the communities she called home.
Barbara became a familiar figure in the area as a teacher and seamstress, often appearing at craft fairs and local markets in Brecon. Her life story, captured by her son Phil Jones, charts a path through war, post-war rebuilding, a career in tailoring and adult education, family, friendship, love, and loss. Barbara passed away in 2023.
Phil, a veteran musician, singer-songwriter and producer, blends music, spoken word, and visual storytelling to bring his mother’s story to life. The performance combines archival photographs, poems, songs, and off-stage narration, exploring universal themes through the lens of one life.
Although the story specifically focuses on one person, the issues covered are universal. It’s the tale of many told through the story of one. The show is driven by the notion that everyone has a story inside them.
The show is written and performed entirely by Phil.
Audiences at previous performances have praised the show for its warmth and emotional depth, with one calling it "A brilliant, prilliant Production!" and another saying “I loved this performance – a moving story told with warmth, spanning years from Yorkshire to Wales”.
The Brecon performance at The Muse (Old Museum, Glamorgan Street, LD3 7DW) begins at 7pm on March 14, and follows a performance in Aberdare’s Cynon Valley Museum on March 13.
