Residents at Cartref Care Home in Hay-on-Wye were treated to a dose of laughter after staff, friends and residents staged their own pantomime version of Cinderella.

The idea came from a residents’ meeting, where people asked for activities that would make them laugh.

One resident, Ann Boyle, took centre stage as the Fairy Godmother, delighting the audience. A keen drama and amateur dramatics fan in her younger years, the performance gave her the chance to revisit a long-held passion.

Family and friends were invited to a “grand ball”, complete with bubbly and chocolates.

Costumes were sourced from Hay-on-Wye charity shops and the Hay Theatre Group.

The show was filmed by John Price, with photographs taken by care home manager Leanne Davies.

Activities champion Chrissy Maddy told the Brecon & Radnor Express: “I would personally like to thank everyone involved in making this wish happen for our residents.

“Team Cartref go above and beyond to give their residents outstanding person-centred care and laughter is certainly the best medicine anyone can prescribe.”
