A man has been charged with murder following the death of Young John Mongan, 49, after an incident in Welshpool town centre.

Dyfed-Powys Police confirmed that Martin Slezak, 22, of Stanley Street, Welshpool, has been charged with Mr Mongan's murder.

Mr Mongan, from Walsall, died after an incident on Church Street during the early hours of Sunday, June 28.

Slezak has been remanded in custody and is due to appear before the court.

A spokesperson for the force said: "Dyfed-Powys Police would like to thank all those who have assisted with the investigation so far."

The force has previously appealed for information from anyone who witnessed a disturbance in Church Street between 12:45am and 1:15am on Sunday, or who has mobile phone, video or dashcam footage that could assist the investigation.
