Dyfed-Powys Police are investigating after four lambs were killed in an enclosed field in Radnorshire earlier this week.
The Rural Crime Team said the incident took place in the Rhulen area between 8am and 4pm on Tuesday (March 10). The young lambs, aged between two and three weeks old, suffered bites, open wounds, and broken spines.
Police are treating the attack as a worrying incident, which under the Dogs (Protection of Livestock) (Amendment) Act 1953, is a criminal offence. The legislation covers situations where dogs attack or chase livestock, causing death, injury, or suffering.
A spokesperson for Dyfed-Powys Police said: “This isn’t just a threat to a farmer or landowner’s livelihood, it’s also a dangerous situation for the animals involved, and could lead to further risks if livestock escape onto the road.”
