Police officers investigating an incident which led to a man’s death in Pontypool last week have said they believe the violence broke out between two rival motorcycle gangs.

Anthony Jones, from Brecon, was found with serious injuries in the Pontnewynydd area on Thursday, August 6 when he was rushed to The Grange University Hospital near Cwmbran. On Saturday, it was confirmed that the 56-year-old had died as a result of his injuries and a murder investigation had been launched.

Earlier this week, police said they wanted to speak to another man, from Blaenavon, in connection with the disorder and continue to appeal for any information the public might have. They’re also looking for blue Ford Transit van with the registration MA23 FLC.

Now, officers believe they have linked the violence to two rival motorcycle gangs.

“We remain in the early stages of this complex and fast-moving murder investigation,” said Senior Investigating Officer, Laura Bartley.

“Our investigation is progressing at pace and multiple arrests have been made. Detectives are working to establish the full circumstances surrounding Thursday’s incident, including the actions and movements of those involved before, during and after the disorder.

"At this stage of our enquiries, we believe the violent disorder involved members of two rival Outlaw Motorcycle Clubs, the Vikings and the Hells Angels. Establishing the extent of involvement of those connected to the incident remains a key focus of the investigation."
