Dyfed-Powys Police is urging anyone in possession of certain blank-firing firearms to take part in a national amnesty taking place next month.

The four-week initiative, running from February 2-27, aims to remove potentially dangerous guns from circulation before they fall into the wrong hands.

The amnesty covers five BRUNI-manufactured top-venting blank-firing firearms (TVBFs) that have recently been declared illegal following tests by the National Crime Agency (NCA). These are:

• 8mm PAK Bruni BBM Model 92 blank firing self-loading pistol

• 8mm PAK Bruni BBM New Police blank firing self-loading pistol

• 8mm PAK Bruni BBM Model 96 blank firing self-loading pistol

• 8mm PAK Bruni BBM Model ‘GAP’ blank firing self-loading pistol

• .380R (9mmK) PAK Bruni BBM ME Ranger single-action blank firing revolver

Police stress that anyone still possessing these specific TVBFs after the amnesty could face prosecution and up to ten years in prison.

In Powys, residents can hand in firearms safely and anonymously at Brecon, Llandrindod Wells, and Newtown police stations during normal hours, 8am–4pm, Monday to Friday. Officers advise that weapons should be transported discreetly in a bag or box, with a direct journey made to the station solely for this purpose. Upon arrival at the station, inform the staff at the front counter that you are there to hand in a firearm before presenting it to them.

Dyfed-Powys Police Sergeant Haydon Mathias said: “Gun crime in the Dyfed-Powys area remains very rare but we are not complacent about it, which is why we are supporting the national BRUNI TVBF firearms amnesty.

“Surrendering these weapons now will help prevent them getting into the wrong hands in the future and being used by criminals, so we want as many top-venting blank firers as possible to be handed in.”
