A 78-year-old woman died in a house fire at a property in Cefn Byrle Road, Coelbren near Ystradgylais on Wednesday.
Police and fire have confirmed that a joint investigation has been launched into the cause of the fire, which is being treated as unexplained at this time.
“Officers and PCSOs will continue with scene preservation duties and cordons will remain in place whilst enquiries are ongoing. However every effort will be made to minimise any disruption,” said a police spokesman.
Emergency services were called to the scene of the fire at 8.24 on Wednesday and did not leave until 11.20 with fire crews from Abercrave, Seven Sisters, Pontardawe and South Wales Fire and Rescue Service attending.
Police confirmed that the woman’s next of kin have been informed and are currently being supported by specialist officers.
