Dyfed-Powys Police has closed the A470 from Doldowlod to Rhayader is currently closed due to what they are calling an emergency incident.

They have asked road users to avoid the area and find alternative routes.

Llandrindod Wells Fire Station has now confirmed the incident is Gwastedyn Hill that is currently on fire since yesterday (Wednesday, 12 August).

The Fire station said: “We are currently dealing with a wildfire in the Rhayader area, with crews working to bring the incident under control.

“As a result of the ongoing incident, the A470 between the Halt near Llanwrthwl and Rhayader is closed and is expected to remain closed for the foreseeable future.

“We ask members of the public to avoid the area while emergency crews deal with the incident and, importantly, do not attempt to use the A470.

“Please follow all road closure signs and instructions from emergency services. For the latest information, including updates on when the road is safe to reopen, please keep an eye on Dyfed-Powys Police social media channels.

“We would like to thank the public for your continued support, patience and cooperation while crews work at the incident.

“Please continue to adhere to all advice and guidance given by emergency services and avoid putting yourself or others at risk.”
