MOTORISTS are revved up this week after the local authority revealed that it is hiking up car park charges by over 87 per cent.

Road users will have to fork out £225 for a new 12 month permit to park at any council owned pay and display car park throughout Powys - a rise of 50 per cent.

Permits are also available for three and six months, with a new permit for half a year setting drivers back the most - a new one will cost you £125, up from £80, an increase of 87.5 per cent.

A three month permit is up from £40 to £75, a 46 per cent hike.

Powys County Council (PCC) says it has been pushed into drastic action, including increasing the charges of a number of services, due to setting 'one of its most difficult budgets' in years.
