POWYS County Council has been holding a number of events throughout the county to discuss how it can save £70 million.

While residents in Brecon and Llandrindod haven't rushed to meetings in the evenings, with just 12 members of the public attending at the Elim Church in Brecon on October 8, day time meetings have been more successful.

At the day time meetings, arranged by the council and Powys teaching health board, community organisations, charities and town and community councils were given the opportunity to learn more about both bodies' response to the public spending cuts.

Meanwhile, anti-cuts campaign Powys Uncut is to hold a public meeting in Brecon on Thursday, October 16 at The Muse in Glamorgan Street at 6.30pm.

The group has joined with other concerned groups around Wales to lobby the National Assembly of Wales before it formally passes its budget in December.

Powys Uncut had also been due to hold a meeting at Cefnllys School in Llandrindod Wells last Tuesday (October 14).
