Robin and Jo Ransome from Bleddfa took five homebred Welsh Black cattle (and a calf) to the Royal Welsh Show and were successful winningthree out of four classes they entered.
The couple from near Knighton won the John E Hughes glass bowl, the South Wales award for best cow/heifer with calf, Marian Centenary Bowl for the best pair and Edward Prince of Wales for the best group of four.
Their Blackmixen Charmian became Welsh Black female champion and was overall Welsh Black reserve champion.
Charmian and Ken Ellis's bull were reserve champions in the interbreed Fitzhugh pairs and Charmian made up the team of five and were reserve champions again.
Young bull Blackmixen Glyndwr, having won his class on Monday was then 3rd in the interbreed young bull on Thursday.
Charmian once again made up the team of three natives and the Welsh Blacks were champions!
Talking about what could have been their last Royal Welsh appearance, Robin Ransome said: "We were totally blown away and over the moon. There was an excellent standard of Welsh Blacks present at the show and to do so well was absolutely awesome.”
Robin and Jo both work full time so after many months of hard work with very early starts and extremely late suppers (at 10pm regularly!) the hard work paid off.
Last year the Ransome couple from Bleddfa experienced great success at this year's Royal Welsh, winning a total of 13 rosettes and 3 trophies.
In 2024 Jo and Robin Ransome took their four homebred Welsh Blacks to the show and saw them all win prizes.
Sadly the farm has received notice from Powys County Council meaning this year may have been their last year at the Royal Welsh Show, although they are in negotiation for a possible extension.
