Brecknock Young Farmers’ Clubs celebrated in style on Saturday, June 27, when county chair Samuel Powell hosted his Chair’s Ball.

The event was held in a marquee in a field beside the River Wye at Erwood, with a packed crowd enjoying warm weather, Hills burgers and Gino’s Ice Cream in the sunshine.

The concert was compèred by Deryc Rees and Elin Havard, who guided the audience through an evening of entertainment featuring a wide range of acts from across the county, alongside Builth Wells Male Voice Choir. Organisers thanked all performers for their contributions to the night.

A charity auction, led by Deryc Rees and Erwood YFC member Ryan Jones, raised funds for Samuel Powell’s chosen charities - 2wish Cymru, Mind and the Sudden Cardiac Arrest Foundation. A wide selection of prizes, donated by local businesses and supporters, helped generate strong bidding.

Combined with a raffle, the auction raised more than £5,000 for the three charities.

Entertainment continued after the auction, with New Rivals Band taking to the stage as guests danced into the night.

He also paid tribute to those who helped organise and run the event, including Luke and Sharon Ferguson, the Tysiaf family, Dafydd and Rebecca Saunders-Jones, Robert Healey, Gwen, Iwan and Niall, as well as his own family, whose support made the evening possible.

The fundraising continues on August 23, when Samuel will take on his Chair’s Challenge by walking up and down Pen y Fan 10 times in 24 hours to raise even more money for his chosen charities.

Anyone wishing to support him is invited to come along and join him for part of the challenge, with the last ascent expected around 4pm.
