An authentic World War One trench appeared in Brecon’s Peace Garden last month after cadets worked hard to build the reconstruction.

On Saturday, July 30, the scene in the Peace Garden was one of intense industry as army cadets from the Brecon Detachment started work on the latest project for the garden.

The cadets were busily filling sandbags with which to create an authentic, if very shallow, WWI trench. Sited in the wildlife area the trench will be the ideal spot for wildlife and, just as in WWI, the wildflowers that will grow in the turves used to cover the roof.

The Brecon Hive said it would like to thank the cadets and their OC and instructors for all their hard work as well as thanking the Infantry Battle School, Rob Price builders merchant and “Dixies Corner” for their help and support.
