The opening ceremony was led by celebrity hairdresser Lee Stafford and attended by Mark Dacey, Chief Executive Officer, and Dr Rhobert Lewis, Chair of the Corporation Board. Together they unveiled the new facilities, designed to provide modern learning spaces and create a “university feel” campus at the heart of Brecon.

Watton Mount will host advanced information technology facilities alongside specialist hair and beauty training. The Coach House will operate as a commercial teaching salon, allowing students to gain practical experience in a real-world environment. Both buildings are equipped with interactive technologies to meet the needs of 21st-century learners.

The launch follows the transfer of the buildings from Powys County Council to NPTC Group of Colleges, forming part of a wider regeneration scheme aimed at revitalising Brecon town centre. The project builds on earlier developments including “The Cwtch,” a community learning hub, and new shared facilities at y Gaer, which house a joint library, teaching spaces, and a café.

Mark Dacey said: “This project has been in the pipeline for some time, and we are delighted that it is now coming to fruition. The investment in Watton Mount and The Coach House underlines our commitment to delivering outstanding, future-focused education right in the heart of Brecon.”

Dr Rhobert Lewis, Chair of Governors, added: “These new facilities represent not only an investment in education but also in the wider community. They will create opportunities for young people and adults alike, while supporting the regeneration of Brecon’s town centre.”

Powys County Council has welcomed the development as a significant boost for local businesses and the wider economy, with increased student activity and community use bringing fresh energy to the high street.

The event concluded with guided tours of the new buildings, giving guests the chance to see the upgraded facilities and meet students and staff already benefitting from the enhanced learning environment.
