Brecon Frazz Parade will soon return to the town with a celebration of sustainable travel and creativity.

The annual parade, now in its ninth year, will take place on Saturday, August 8, with this year’s theme “Make Your Own Way Carnival Parade”.

Organisers are inviting people to explore different ways of getting around, from boots and bicycles to boats and buses, while highlighting ways to travel with a lower impact on the environment.

Children from Priory School have already been busy creating this year’s centrepiece, along with windmills, green passports and rubber band-powered vehicles.

Pupils at Brecon High School have also been making 3D “passport” stamps, while colourful costumes and hats have been created at a Frazz workshop which was held at Brecon Volunteers Bureau.

More opportunities to get involved will be available at a free family workshop at Uplands Park on Wednesday, August 5, from 2pm to 5pm.

Families can decorate props, create carbon-free mini vehicles, jazz up buggies, decorate walking boots, and make badges and banners ahead of the parade.

On the day of the Frazz parade itself, festivities begin at 12:30pm in Brecon Cathedral Close, which will include face painting, crafts and performances from the Brecon Shanty Men, Taiko drummers and Bass 12.

The parade will set off at 2pm, led by Bass 12, and travel through the town before reaching the Bulwark Stage, where the celebrations will continue.

Children under 12 attending the event must be accompanied by an adult.

The Frazz Parade brings together Brecon Jazz Festival and Brecon Fringe Festival, and this year’s event has received generous support from organisations including SDF fund, Brecknock Art Trust and Brecon Town Council.
