Mains Gas Limited collected the award, sponsored by Myrick Training Services, at the annual Powys Business Awards held at The Infantry Battle School, Dering Lines, Brecon at on Friday night. The awards are organised by Mid Wales Manufacturing Group (MWMG).

The company, which has a workforce of six, has grown from a sole trader operation in 2019 into one of the region's leading heating and plumbing companies, providing domestic and commercial services across Powys and the surrounding counties.

The company specialises in gas, oil, LPG, renewable heating systems, air conditioning, servicing, maintenance and emergency repairs.

“We are ecstatic to have won this award,” said Martin Mainwaring, who established the company in 2017 with his wife Samantha. “We were here last year when we were runners-up but we met so many good people then that have helped us to push on this year, so we are proud to be here and thrilled to have won.”

Industry accredited and registered, the company is qualified to install air source heat pumps and keeps pace with the latest developments to help customers transition towards more energy-efficient, sustainable heating solutions.

A key part of the company’s success is developing local talent through apprenticeships and investment in training engineers, thereby addressing the industry's skills shortage.

“What made the evening even more special was seeing other fantastic Brecon businesses also taking home awards, highlighting the incredible talent, dedication and hard work of businesses within our local community.

“Despite challenging economic conditions, rising costs and industry-wide skills shortages, we have continued to invest in our people, systems, vehicles, equipment and training to ensure we deliver the highest standards of service.

Mains Gas is no stranger to industry awards, having been recognised multiple times, including Best Plumbing & Heating Company in Wales for three consecutive years.

The Powys Business Awards judges said: “We found it hard not to give this business full marks with its strong strategy, finances and customer base, encompassing everyone from individual households to large commercial and even prestigious customers.”

They also praised Mains Gas for its commitment to apprenticeships, staff training and community work.

Runners up were Advantage Automotive Ltd, Presteigne and Camlin, Welshpool.
