Brecon Singers will fill St Mary’s Church with seasonal music on Saturday, December 6 at 7:30pm, offering a programme of festive choral and instrumental works.

The singers, under the direction of Robert Evans, will perform Benjamin Britten’s “Ceremony of Carols“ and Ralph Vaughan Williams’ “Fantasia on Christmas Carols”, alongside a selection of traditional arrangements of carols. The concert will also feature “Shine in Peace”, a new work commissioned by Brecon Singers, with words by choir member Jean Ruston and music by Jonathan Willcocks.

Professional bass Robert Pritchard will join the choir in supporting the performance, accompanied by organ, cello, and harp. Interspersed with the choral pieces will be solo performances, including harp music by Elen Hydref, two organ solos, and a Christmas song for baritone and organ performed by Hilary Norris and Robert Pritchard.

The musicians bringing the programme to life have extensive experience. Hilary Norris, a solo organ recitalist, has performed in concerts across Europe and regularly performs in the UK. Bass Robert Pritchard is in demand on the concert platform and works as a voice teacher in Herefordshire and Shropshire. Welsh harpist Elen Hydref has performed with leading orchestras in the UK and Norway and has appeared in many recordings and live broadcasts. Alan Davies is well known locally for his sensitive cello and piano performances and his work with young people in South Powys Youth Orchestra. The choir benefits from his regular piano support in rehearsals where a strong musical partnership with creative Choral Director Robert Evans makes learning new works dynamic and fun.

Tickets for the performance, which promises a programme which is both rich and varied, are priced at £15, and are now on sale at Brecon Books in Lion Street, Brecon Pet and Garden Centre, on the door, and online at: www.breconsingers.com
