Residents and staff at Trenewydd Care Home in Brecon came together to celebrate a truly remarkable milestone as Betty marked her 101st birthday in style.
Born in, Essex, Betty moved to Wales in 1983 after marrying a police officer. The couple enjoyed more than 50 happy years of marriage and raised two sons, Stephen and Ian, both of whom are now retired. Betty speaks with great pride about her family, including her grandchildren and great-grandson and says she loves seeing her sons enjoying life and creating new memories.
Reflecting on the last 101 years, Betty said: “I’ve lived my life and a damn good life at that. I have a lifetime of happy memories that keep me going.”
To mark her special day, activities champion Becky Lloyd arranged for Betty to enjoy a walk along the River Usk promenade, accompanied by a close friend from the home. The celebrations continued back at Trenewydd, where residents and staff gathered for a party complete with a homemade cake prepared by the home’s chef, Mandy and a birthday treat trolley filled with fresh fruit, one of Betty’s favourites.
Richard Shepherd, service manager at Trenewydd Care Home, said: “It has been an absolute privilege to celebrate Betty’s 101st birthday with her. She is a wonderful character with a fantastic sense of humour and she brings so much joy to everyone around her. Reaching such a milestone is truly special and we were delighted to make the day as memorable as possible for her.”
Trenewydd Care Home is operated by Shaw healthcare on behalf of Powys County Council. Shaw is the largest employee-owned care provider in the UK.
