Brecon Guildhall will open its doors to ghost hunters and the curious on Friday, September 12, for a special public paranormal investigation event hosted by That’s the Spirit.
The evening, running from 7pm to 2am, will give participants the chance to explore the world of the unexplained under the guidance of experienced investigators.
A highlight of the night will be a talk by Dr Jack Hunter PhD, a leading paranthropologist and expert, who explores the borderlands of consciousness, religion, ecology and the paranormal. Dr Hunter, an Honorary Research Fellow with the Alister Hardy Religious Experience Research Centre at the University of Wales Trinity Saint David, will deliver “Paranthropology: An Introduction to the Anthropology of the Paranormal”, followed by a Q&A session and the opportunity to purchase signed copies of his books.
Participants will then split into small groups to investigate Brecon Guildhall, with access to professional paranormal equipment and guidance from Dr Hunter and the That’s the Spirit team of experienced and friendly investigators. Guests will also have the opportunity to investigate on their own and/or take part in lone vigils.
The organisers emphasise a rigorous approach to the supernatural. Logical explanations will be sought first, and only experiences that cannot be explained will be considered potentially paranormal. A scheduled break with drinks and snacks will be included during the evening.
Dr Hunter, a prolific author and academic, has published numerous books on spirituality, ecology, folklore, and the paranormal, including Manifesting Spirits (2020), Spirits, Gods and Magic (2020), Ecology and Spirituality (2023) and The Folklore of the Tanat Valley (2025). He has also edited co-edited a number of books on similar topics. He currently lives in the hills of Mid Wales with his family.
Tickets for the Brecon event cost £39 and are available via: ttspirit.co.uk/events
